So the final day of the 2010 Capitol Hill Block Party, Jenny, Rashaun, Rafa and I decided to watch a Blue Scholars show that was being held in Cafe Vita's Bean Room. It was an exclusive thing for KEXP and it was first come, first 60 people let in. Well we got front row seats and my whitey dancing has been immortalized on the YouTubes. Because I like to embarrass myself, please enjoy these videos. You can tell I love the Blue Scholars and couldn't contain my chair dancing. Sit and be fit my friends, sit and be fit.

This picture was taken on my walk from Greenlake to the BBQ to Maple Leaf. I was wearing my big straw hat and couldn't stop laughing about how I resembled the symbol that you see on the outside of a women's bathroom.

Tunics, yay!

I have fallen in love with a pattern recently and I loiter in fabric stores trying to find my next combination to try with the pattern. I bought it at Fabric Crush in Wallingford along with the fabric that I made the first one with. It was a teal color fabric which was also iridescent. I feel like the most challenging part about the tunic is the skirt. The pleats made it look really boxy and honsetly gave me a pooch gut. Not attractive. So rather than scrapping the project I changed the skirt to an A-line and I love it. It is on the shorter side but with a pair of leggings it is good to go.




Before meeting up with Jenny and Rashaun at the Capitol Hill Block Party I took a swing by my favorite sewing shop in Seattle: Stitches. Turns out they have expanded by renting an apartment upstairs of the shop as the project space. Very cool but also dangerous for me. So I found a couple of fabrics from Japan. I am pretty sure they are cotton. I am going to make another one of these tunics but alter the pattern yet again. This time I will stick with the A-line skirt because that is flattering on me. Rather than having 3/4 length sleeves I think I am going to go with a short sleeve... just above the elbow perhaps. I am trying to check out some dresses at Anthropology to find inspiration on the sleeve length and shape but that hasn't really told me anything. I am afraid it might be too boxy with the square-ish neckline. We will soon see. Oh! Below is a crappy picture I took with my iPhone of the fabrics I chose. The blue will be the skirt, the cream will be the bodice and the sleeves. Yay!


Pictures of the finished tunic is forth coming. I have a little bit of work to do... really I need to make it a bit more quirky... a closer resemblance of me. Maybe one of my kind friends will take a picture with a real camera. Wouldn't that be nice?

Antics to Share

As I was sitting on my balcony enjoying the sunset and working on my chemistry homework I hear the neighbors (you know which ones) shout: "Look at the rat on the wire. Woah man that is a big one!" This was then followed by jeering and cheering by the clan. Joy. My upstairs neighbor made a good point though: "At least it wasn't followed by, 'Let's shoot it.'"

Future Quilt in the Making

After leaving the Tin Roof on a trip to Portland (best Bloody Mary's in the city, seriously) I walked past this sewing store and saw this quilt sitting on the couch. I can see me making this in the near future. First, though, I want to make a new duvet cover. I am on the lookout for fabrics as I write this.

Two failed attempts of items I threw on Etsy. One is a headband. Catface is sitting on a scarf with a button.





I finally took the time to make a quilt for myself. This is an assortment of fabric remnants from other projects and whatnot. As we can see Catface is a very helpful kitty.









I made this nifty knitting needle case for Brooke. She has an amazing taste in fabric. She provided it all I gave her my labor. It was a labor of love. Soon I will be putting this pattern onto the interwebs for all the peoples to see.

When is flag day anyway?

In an effort to continue to craft yet save money I have decided to use up some of my old fabric that I have building up in my basement. I had been oogling some fabric party flags on etsy and found a video blog on threadbanger.com about how to make one for Mother's Day. My bedroom decorations have been quite sparse so I thought that this would be an awesome opportunity to kill a few birds with a couple of stones. I could have a distraction from my school work while using up old fabric and decorate my bedroom with one swoop. Only new thing I did purchase for this project was the white ribbon that connects all the pieces.




Oh and yes I did stencil those blue curtains myself!

Blast from the Past!

So I have just finished a new project that I wanted to write about but I feel like I should do a recap of some of the projects that I have done within the last couple of years. Context is everything, right? Well just as the cartoon version of Clerks, I am going to do a best of episode on the second episode. On a side note, most of my pictures have been taken with my iPhone. Sorry about the poor quality. When I have some more money I will invest in a proper camera. For now this is all that you get.

I recently moved into my own apartment. Yep, no more boy roommates to tell me how to decorate it. First thing was first, make some curtains. I appliqued trees onto the larger curtains that I hung in my living room/ eating area and hand stitched designs on my curtains in my kitchen.






Sometimes I like to go crazy and dress up in superhero outfits. Leggings and shirt are handmade.



Knitting is a much enjoyed hobby.






Okay that is good enough for now. I am just realizing it is midnight and I still want to make this next post. Bah.

Oh hi.

Time to set the precedent for all other blog posts. It's a tall order, I know.

So what should you be expecting to see here? This is a place for me to share my creative ventures with my friends close and far. I tried the Etsy thing but to tell you the truth, I like making stuff for me and my loved ones. Making things for a profit is not fruitful enough at this juncture (If you see something and you'd like a custom made item, let me know here or at my Etsy site and we can work something out.).

Speaking of Etsy, I love to troll that site for inspiration. I may have days where I share with you things that are peaking my interest in either purchasing or creating myself.

I can promise pictures of my cat. That is a given.

Look out for patterns that suggest for sewing or knitting or even some things that I created myself. In the next couple of days I will dig around in my pictures and post some of the projects I have worked on in the past and give you some links to other sites that inspired them.
